Driver’s Ed Classroom will start on May 29th.  Signup sheets are in the office.

Track T-shirts are in.  Cost is $10.50.
The following students need to turn in $50 for attending the Minnesota State FFA Convention…Amanda Bartosh, Jenna Leopold, Maddie Collin and Anna Kalfs.  Please turn this money into Ms. Schoenfeld or Mr. Place as soon as possible.
Please Join us from 7-8:30pm tonight for a Town Hall meeting on underage drinking in Jackson County.  The Jackson County Addiction Prevention Coalition will be presenting statistics and other information on the issue of underage drinking.  In addition, a panel of various community stakeholders including members of the police, fire, ambulance, and other areas will be on hand to give presentations about their take on the issue and answer any questions that you may have.  The meeting will be held in the gym in Okabena and is open to all.
Miss Heron Lake Pageant- Any girl who is 16-18 years of age by 7/25/08 with a Heron Lake address and/or telephone number is eligible. If interested, forms are available in the office and must be returned by May 9th.  A meeting will be held on Monday, May 12th at 7 p.m. at the Community Center for all interested girls.
There will be a meeting for all 10-11th grade boys’ basketball players on Monday, May 5 at 11:45 in the choir room.  The summer schedule will be handed out at this time!
Friday's baseball game with Lincoln County has been cancelled.

 The Junior Class has frozen Break & Bake cookies for sale at $9.00 per 3lb. box. There are 3 boxes of sugar cookies, 2 oatmeal raisin, 2 snickerdoodle, and 1 peanut butter. Contact Mrs. Renczykowsi--first come, first served. Proceeds go towards their senior class trip.
Attention all 7th Graders: You have a chance to win $100 and some other great things for your school.  Just participate in the First Annual Physical Activity Essay Contest sponsored by Minnesota Action for Healthy Kids.  The theme is “It’s How You Move Your Feet”.  If interested please pick up the forms in the office or ask Mrs. Cook.   Deadline dates of entries is May 7th.
The Jr Class pizza party will be today so that most Jr. class members will be able to take part.
Applications for Student Council Officer positions are now available.  Any student grades 7-12 with at least 1 year of student council experience are eligible to run for Student Council Officer.  Application deadline is MAY 5th.  We will be voting for class reps and officers on May 12th.  You may pick up an application from Mrs. Koep or the office.
Job Opportunity-The US Fish & Wildlife Service out of Windom has 4 openings for a 2008 Youth Conservation Corps program.  Enrollees would work and be paid (minimum wage) for 8 weeks of 40 hours.  The program runs from June 9th-August 1.  Projects include building trails, removing or maintaining fences, improving wildlife habitat, and removal of invading woody species on the prairie.  Participants will do hard physical work and be exposed to insects, poison oak and ivy, adverse weather, and difficult working conditions.  Students must be 15-18.  If you are interested, see Mrs. C for an application.  Application is due May 9th.
School To Work Opportunity:  The district will be hiring a student to assist with food service next year at the elementary.  The requirements include:  a dependable student that can drive to and from Heron Lake each day.  Hours would be from 11:05-12:05.  Student would eat there and return.  Great way to get in an hour’s worth of work and pay each day without missing any class!  If you are interested, please see Mrs. C
